Fairness Games in Milan
2023-09-29
Equality takes the field with Airdom, Repower Sanga Milano, and Fondazione Laureus Italia Onlus.
Everyone on the court for Fairness Games, the event hosted by Airdom that brought together players, basketball enthusiasts, the entire Milanese community and a special guest Cecilia Zandalasini.
On Sunday, September 17th, we celebrated the inauguration of the basketball court built by Airdom for the Italo Calvino Institute in Milan. The event showcased the values of inclusion, equality, and sense of belonging - the same principles at the heart of the entire new basketball playground project.
This journey, lasting almost a year, was one in which Airdom believed deeply, instilling commitment, positivity, and dedication from day one. That's why we want to share its story with you.
THE PROJECT FOR THE ITALO CALVINO SCHOOL
For a long time, Airdom had a clear goal it wanted to achieve: to offer younger generations new opportunities and dreams through the power of basketball. Finally, the meeting in late December 2022 with Coach Pinotti of Repower Sanga Basket Milano Serie A marked a turning point and direction for the initiative: Italo Calvino School, Via Frigia 4, Milan
A school, what better place to shape such a meaningful project. For Airdom, sports are not just a game but an educational and social tool capable of promoting fundamental values. This led us to create a new place for fun, gathering, and sharing within an educational institution. A basketball playground that provides a space for 1,000 students and young people of all ages to come together and achieve greatness through their passion, just as the motto at the center of the court declares: “Together we can achieve greatness”.
A COURT BUILT THANKS TO YOUR OLD SNEAKERS
We didn't stop at just building a basketball court: this project embodies all the principles the company stands for, including sustainability. . Thanks to our collaboration with Esosport and the Regive project, sponsored by FIP Lombardia, the playing field was entirely constructed with sustainable materials. From collecting end-of-life sports shoes in our stores to recycling them at Esosport's ESO Recycling facility, to the return of the raw material on the new basketball court for Italo Calvino School in Milan.
TWO SPECIAL PARTNERS: REPOWER SANGA MILANO AND LAUREUS FOUNDATION
The realization of the new court and the event were made even more special by two partners who believed in the project and supported us along the way: Repower Sanga Milano, a basketball school and a hub for sports and social initiatives, as well as the first women's team in Milan to reach the top league, and Laureus Foundation, an organization that operates worldwide, supporting children in social and economic difficulties through the power of sports.
We hope that this basketball court will not only be a place for fun, but also a symbol of unity, respect, and sharing for everyone.
FAIRNESS GAMES: THE EVENT
The day began with a Camp dedicated to some athletes from Repower Sanga Milano who tried out the new court while testing the Sabrina1, the very first silhouette that Nike dedicated to the WNBA world through athlete Sabrina Ionescu, a star of the New York Liberty.
In the early afternoon, there was a significant playtime, in collaboration with Laureus and Repower Sanga, attended by over 50 children and families. Two hours of games and interactive moments to convey the initiative's crucial values to the younger generation. Following this lovely meet-up, Airdom, Repower Sanga Milano, and Laureus Foundation took the stage for the official project presentation.
At 4:00 pm, the special guest, Cecilia Zandalasini, arrived, a WNBA champion in 2017 and a prominent figure in women's basketball and the Italian national team. An inspiration to all athletes and fans, her presence underscored the crucial principles underpinning Fairness Games. Cecilia, led by Gaia Accoto, who is always with us at significant events, answered questions in the renowned Airdom Q&A and later played a thunder challenge with some athletes. For the winners, an exclusive prize: a pair of Nike Kobe 6 Proto Mambacita sneakers.
Capping off this thrilling day was the anticipated women's 3X3 tournament that set the new court ablaze: 16 teams comprising girls aged under 14, 15, 17, and 18 competed in the spirit of fun, inclusion, and sharing.
A special thanks to Repower Sanga Milano, the Laureus Foundation, and all of you for bringing Fairness Games to life, not just with your support but also with your hearts.
